Returns and Refunds

This policy explains how to return goods bought from the Randcore store. You have two separate sets of rights: a cooling-off right when you buy online, and the right to return goods that are defective. They work differently, so read the section that applies to you.

Two different rights

South African law gives you two distinct protections, and we honour both:

  • Cooling-off (changed your mind): because you bought online, you may cancel the order and return the goods within a short statutory window, even if there is nothing wrong with the item. This comes from the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act (ECTA).
  • Defective goods (something is wrong with the item): if the goods are faulty, not of good quality, or do not do what they are meant to, you can return them under the Consumer Protection Act (CPA). This applies whether you bought online or not.

The two rights have different timelines, different conditions, and a different answer to who pays for return shipping. Each is set out below.

Cooling-off right for online orders (ECTA)

Because your purchase is an electronic transaction, ECTA section 44 gives you the right to cancel without giving a reason and without penalty. You may cancel within seven business days after the day you receive the goods.

What applies to a cooling-off return:

  • The goods must be returned to us sealed where they were supplied sealed, unused, and in their original packaging with all accessories and documentation included.
  • You bear the direct cost of returning the goods to us.
  • Once we receive the goods back in the required condition, we refund you within the statutory period of 30 days from the date of cancellation. The refund covers the price you paid for the goods.

To use this right, start a return through the steps below within the seven-business-day window. The cooling-off right does not apply to goods that, by their nature, cannot be returned once unsealed or once activated, for example software, downloadable content, and licence or activation keys that have been opened or redeemed.

Returning defective goods (CPA)

Separately from cooling-off, the Consumer Protection Act gives you an implied warranty of quality on everything you buy from us. The goods must be of good quality, in good working order, and free of defects, and must stay that way for a reasonable period.

If goods fail, are defective, or are unsafe within six months of delivery, you may return them and choose one of the following, at no charge to you:

  • a repair of the goods,
  • a replacement of the goods, or
  • a full refund of the price you paid.

The choice is yours, not ours. A defect return does not require the original packaging to be sealed or unused, because the point is that the item is faulty. We do ask that you return the item with its accessories so the fault can be assessed and the unit replaced or repaired fairly.

For defective goods, we cover the cost of return shipping. This is the key difference from a cooling-off return, where you pay to send the item back.

This warranty does not cover damage caused by misuse, accidental damage, unauthorised repairs or modifications, or normal wear. Where a manufacturer warranty also applies, it runs in addition to your CPA rights and does not replace them.

How to start a return or RMA

Whether you are cooling off or returning a defective item, the first step is the same. Contact us before sending anything back, so we can issue a return authorisation (RMA) and give you the correct return address.

  • Use the form on our contact page, or call us on +27 62 524 6155.
  • Tell us your order number, the item, and whether you are cooling off or reporting a defect.
  • We will confirm the RMA and the next steps. Please do not return goods without an RMA, as it helps us match the parcel to your order and process it faster.

Refunds and timelines

Refunds are made to the original payment method used at checkout, through our payment partner. For a cooling-off return, we refund within the statutory period once we have received the goods back in the required condition. For a defective-goods refund, we process the refund once the return is assessed and confirmed as a valid defect.

Prices on the store are inclusive of any applicable taxes. Delivery costs are calculated at checkout. Where you are entitled to a refund of the price for defective goods, any delivery you paid to receive the goods may also be refundable depending on the circumstances of the return.

Condition summary

  • Cooling-off: sealed (where supplied sealed), unused, complete, original packaging. You pay return shipping.
  • Defective goods: returned with accessories for assessment, packaging condition is not a barrier. We pay return shipping.

Exclusions

The cooling-off right does not extend to opened or redeemed software, digital downloads, and activation or licence keys. None of the exclusions in this policy limit your rights under the Consumer Protection Act for goods that are genuinely defective.
